ZEST Partner: Expectancy

Who are Expectancy?

Expectancy is proud to have been providing a unique range of complementary therapy courses for midwives for 20 years. We offer innovative, trail-blazing courses on complementary therapies to facilitate physiological pregnancy and birth and to reduce intervention. Expectancy’s philosophy embraces safe, accountable, evidence-based practice to ensure appropriate, contemporary care for expectant and birthing parents, and protection for midwives’ registration. All our courses can be used towards professional development and UK NMC revalidation.

Our team is led by Dr Denise Tiran HonDUniv FRCM MSc RM, a midwifery educator and internationally renowned authority on maternity complementary therapies (CTs). Denise was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Greenwich and a prestigious Fellowship by the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) in recognition of her 40 years teaching, practising, researching and publishing on complementary therapies.

How can our Complementary Therapy courses help you in your midwifery practice?

  • Our signature Diploma in Midwifery Complementary Therapies and specialist Certificate programmes in acupuncture, aromatherapy, clinical hypnosis and reflexology, commencing in September, provide a unique introduction to complementary therapies specifically for pregnancy and birth care.
  • you can study one or more complementary therapies (CTs) in-depth so you can acquire new tools to enhance your care of expectant and birthing parents.
  • we also offer short courses and study days in aromatherapy, wellbeing, massage, moxibustion for breech – and our most popular course on aromatherapy and acupressure for postdates pregnancy
  • if you’re looking to offer maternity therapies in your own business, you’ll have the opportunity to prepare for private therapy practice via our Licensed Consultancy scheme.
  • you’ll enjoy being part of our exclusive Expectancy Community – you’ll be with like-minded midwives keen to return to the nurturing that using natural therapies can bring.

Denise has known Tracy, one of our ZEST directors for almost 20 years, and our early Expectancy courses were held in Tracy’s birth centre in Northwich. We share the same philosophy and passion for parents’ – and birth workers’ – choices, and trust in the innate ability of women to birth their babies without major medical interventions. Denise was privileged to be invited to join the KQSC board at the start of ZESTs journey back to offering physiological birth in a variety of care settings and a return to home birth provided by midwives and doulas committed to the traditional values of maternity care.

Expectancy’s partnership with Zest offers a mutually beneficial collaboration – for midwives and birth workers and for expectant and birthing parents. For Expectancy-trained midwives offering complementary therapies, this provides an opening for those in their own businesses to expand into private maternity care – and gain insurance to do so.
