Pioneering Change in Midwifery Practice with ZEST Independent Midwife Insurance

At ZEST, we pride ourselves on pioneering change and empowering midwives to practice independently with confidence and advocacy. We understand the vital role midwives and their partnering birth workers play in maternal healthcare, and we’re committed to ensuring they have the necessary resources and support to thrive in their profession, which includes independent midwives insurance cover.

All Midwives are required to adhere to the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) code of conduct, providing evidence-based care while maintaining the highest standards of practice. One crucial requirement for midwives is to have the appropriate level of indemnity insurance, providing protection and peace of mind for both midwives and their clients.

Historically, midwives relied on the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) for indemnity insurance. However, in 1994, the landscape shifted when the RCM withdrew its cover for independent midwives (IMs) due to escalating costs. This left many midwives facing uncertainty and challenges in accessing essential insurance coverage.

In response to this gap in support, the NMC’s legislation was amended in July 2014, mandating that all healthcare providers, including midwives, must have appropriate indemnity cover. Yet, despite this legal requirement, many independent midwives struggled to find comprehensive independent midwife insurance solutions.

ZEST as a Gateway to IM Insurance

This is where ZEST steps in as a game-changer. We are proud to be the exclusive facilitator in the UK for registered independent midwives to access the appropriate level of indemnity cover. Through our tailored insurance solutions, we ensure that midwives can practice independently in their own practices with confidence and peace of mind.

While other organisations may offer insurance cover for certain aspects of midwifery care, such as antenatal and postnatal care, ZEST goes above and beyond by facilitating comprehensive independent midwife insurance coverage that includes care during home births or any midwife led care setting. We believe that every midwife should have access to the support they need to deliver safe and high-quality care wherever it is needed most.

At ZEST, we’re not just providing insurance; we’re revolutionizing the landscape of independent midwifery practice in the UK. Join us in our mission to empower midwives and enhance maternal healthcare for all. With Zest, the future of independent midwifery is brighter than ever before.
