Description

Hi there, my name is Rebecca or some people know me as Becs. I am a mother to three grown children. Through my positive and empowering homebirth experiences, I felt passionate about working with other women, to help them navigate their own pregnancies and births in a way that feels right for them. I completed my doula training in January 2011 when my children were little and since then have been journeying with families as they walk their own unique paths to meeting their babies. It’s such a deep honour to be invited to support women and their partners at such a tender and transformative time.

Over the years, I have learnt and grown with the many women and families I have supported, who have chosen or experienced:

– spontaneous, physiological births with little or no intervention at home or in hospital

– babies born before arrival (BBA), unassisted/freebirth

– a more medicalised route, induction or pre-term birth

– previous interventions and difficult births, that have resulted in trauma, PTSD

– planned elective or emergency caesarean births

– vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC) or home birth after a caesarean (HBAC)

– multiple births – TWINS (vaginal, elective & emergency caesarean)

– fertility treatment (IVF and ICSI) and pregnancy loss

– pregnancies that carry previous trauma, anxiety, antenatal and postnatal depression

I’ve added to my knowledge over the years with various trainings (too many to list here!), including Certified Level 3 Pilates Instructor in 2014 (I am fully insured). I feel passionate about supporting women to journey through pregnancy as comfortably as possible and weave body & breathwork into any preparations and postnatal recovery sessions together if needed. In 2020, I completed Molly O’Brien’s Foundation & Advanced ‘Biomechanics for Birth’ courses (Optimal Birth) in addition to Suzanne Yates’ ‘Shiatsu for Midwives & Doulas’ foundation course (Wellmother) alongside ‘Working with Women’ sessions with former independent midwife, Sue Learner and weave these learnings into my support if it feels wanted.

Throughout the years, I have also completed Sophie Messager’s ‘Postnatal Recovery Massage’, ‘Breastfeeding support’ sessions with April Whincop IBCLC (Believe in Breastfeeding), which have enhanced what I bring in the early postpartum time for mothers and birthing people to feel held and land gently into this new landscape.

Over time, it’s become so clear to me that it’s not how a family meet their baby, but the way in which they are treated along the way; how they are listened to, respected and are kept at the centre of their care that’s so important to safeguarding their emotional wellbeing.  I’m so passionate about nurturing personalised care and everyone’s emotional safety during pregnancy, birth and beyond! An advocate at heart, I strive to ensure that your voice is heard, your autonomy is protected and you receive kind and compassionate care that listens to your individual choices.

It’s been pure joy being part of Zest, collaborating with likeminded independent midwives and coming full circle with the decisions I made in choosing an independent midwife to support my births!
